A HURRICANE OF ARTILLERY FIRE. THE ENEMY REPULSEDThe High Commissioner ropc-ta:— LONDON, October 19 (4.45 p.m.). In the course of the night three German grenade attacks at Bois on Hache, north-east of Souchcz, were completely repulsed by the infantry, who are solidlyinstalled. . A hurricane of artillery fire o the enemy batteries stopped an intense bombardment of our position at iparges. A group of aviators bombardc i, on the nights of the 17th and 18th, the German aviation ground at Buriimcc irt, north-east of the Chateau Saline. The hangars and shelters were visibly iernolished. ENEMY’S ARTILLERY FIRE STOPPED Received Oc'ober 20, 9.15 a.m. PARIS, October 19. A communique states:—A rain ly our artillery on the enemy's batteries stopped his intense bombardment of pur positions at Eparges. BRITISH PRISONERS IN GERMANY. Received Ociober 20. 9.15 a.m. LONDON, October 19. The Hon J. H. Tennant, in the House of Commons, stated that there were approximately 25,000 British prisoners in Germany on September Ist.
