SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTIONS
UNPARALLELED BITTERNESS. Press Association.—Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON; October If). The Times' corresixmdent at Capetown there is unparalleled biifc-'hjess over the elections. Of 130 seats, eight are not teing contested. A complete split of the old South African party is indicated. An analysis of the contests shows 86 Ministerialists, 83 Labour. There are only three three-cornered contests. The two parties put aside their differences until the war is finished for the purpose of combating the common enemy, of the
Nationalists. Mr Peake’s malignity aroused furious antagonism to Botha, particularly among the poorer hud more ignorant Dutch. It is impossible to predict 'Wednesday's results. A shyero l abour set-back is expected. It is thought the Ministerialists will muster, fifty, which, if there arc nearly, thirty Unionists, will command the House.
