MEETING OF “PLUNKET” SOCIETY. The usual monthly meeting of the above society was held oh Tuesday, 9th inat. Present Mesdames Stevenson (chair), Spurdle, Palmer, Liiiiton, Coinyns, Samp-, son, Lloyd," Bassett, and Miss Morton Jones. Apologies were received from Mesdaines Powell, Bates, and Blamircs. ' Report.—The Plunket .Nurse reported as follows Visits to office-: December, 149; January, 206. Visits-to homes: December, 175; January, 220;-- The work during the last month has been very heavy, but in all cases satisfactory progress was made. Finance.—The secretary reported that the Government subsidy, 1 payable oh 31st March, was received during the month, and that annual subscriptions' and donations were received from the following: MOsdames Ashwell, J. Campion, D. McMillan, W. Gaze) T.- Hine, W. E. McLean, Ti C. Jones, Hill,- G. Saunders, D. Jones, : A. N. Cave,"C. G. Jdhnston, 0. SSmith, J. P; Williamson, J. Dempsey, and the Misses Hardcastle and Duigan. Several accounts wdre passed for payment. Correspondence.—A letter was read from the National Union, of. Women’s Suffrage Societies in London, which accompanied ah appeal to the women of the' overseas Dominions signed by Mrs Henry Fawcett, Lady Frances Balfour, and Lady French (wife of Field-Marshal Sir John French). The appeal is made for help in the relief of the distress and disorganisation caused by the war. Other branches of the Society in New; Zealand have received similar let-' ters, and the secretary-of the Hastings hranoh . wrote sriggesting that tiie Society,; as a wholej should respond by sending bundles of hahy clothing. It was resolved that, as it is impossible to use the Society’s funds, in the purchase of materials, an effort should be. made to raise fhnds for this purpose, and with this end in view. Mrs Comyns interviewed Mr Dunn, manager Tor Messrs Puller, His . Majesty’s, Theatre, with the. result that Mr Dunn has to give a benefit performance in about a fortnight’s time, the proceeds of which are to be wholly devoted,to this object, and to assisting similar cases cf distress in our town. '
