Our artillery has gained a distinct advantage at Tracyleval, in the Champagne district. The enemy blew up our trench north of Tour de Paris, and three German battalions of infantry attempted to debouch, but were repulsed. Received December 19, 8.50 a.m., LONDON, December 18/ News from Dunkirk states that the British bombardment of Westehde greatly damaged the German positions, blew up several magazines, and destroyed a number of batteries. The effects of the bombardment are described as the most dreadful of the war. The Germans fled from the place as shelter after shelter tumbled about their ears and the trenches were heaped with dead. When the bombardment ceased the Francb-Belgian infantry bayonetted the enemy from the trenches.
