In a trial in New York for the unlawful sale of cocaine, an Englishman who gave evidence admitted he used an assumed name when purchasing the stuff from the accused, and that he was a victim of the cocaine habit. He also told the court that he was an Eton and Oxford man, and a member of an old family. He had been decorated with the Eoyal Victorian Order, and served in the South African Wax, being wounded in tire engagement at Spion Kop. Soon afterwards ,he cut adrift from his relatives. He had pawned his war medals in order to purchase cocaine
