MAWSON’S EXPEDITION.
SPEECH BY DR. MAWSON. THE VALUE QE THE NEW LANDS. Press Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright Received March 6, 9.35 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 6. Dr. Mavvson, speaking at the welcome to his expedition, said he had brought several tons of rook and mineral specimens, three or four hundred bird skins, and a number of mammals of the seal type. He obtained indications of a large area of coal. At present he could not estimate the commercial value of the new lands, but they may have much, and it was only right that Australia should have it, ns Australian and British expeditions had accomplished practically all the work done there. He stated that he had an exclusive arrangement with Loudon papers for the main narrative. He, however, had supplied certain news to Australian papers, and as a result'his whole contract with London had been cancelled. AN INTERESTING CROUP OF ISLANDS.
