WELLINGTON WATERSIDERS

TALK OF A NEW UNION. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 18. The latest reported move on the water front is the formation of a gew union. It is understood that the new body will be launched under: the auspices of the members and officials of the old waterside workers’ union. It is claimed by supporters of this latest movement that a new union is necessary. Water front coudtions, they say, are not being attended to by the Wharf Labourers’ Union, and even men who joined tho new union before the strike was officially declared off are expressing dissatisfaction. They have no remedy with the present union, it is asserted, as the executive has refused to call, meetings and neglected to carry into effect resolutions adopted at a meeting which was held. For these reasons, they contend that a new governing body must be ’-established. No application has yet been made for the registration of the new union and, as one is already in existence, registration may not be granted without application to the Court. It is considered that the recent decision of the supreme Court that the union executive could operate its bank account without instructions from the general meeting has led to this latest movement.
