CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
CARPENTERS DISAGREE,

Hie Conciliation council met to-day, the dispute to be considered being between the Christchurch and Sydenham branches of the Society of the Amalgamated society of Carpenters and Joiners, and the Builders and Contractors’ Association °l Canterbury. The Hon. Harr appeared on bo.ialf of the Canterbury Carpenters and Joiners' Union, and complained about the short notice which the Union had received of the meeting of the Council. I*ie representative of the Amalgamated Society said that he had tried to come to terms with the Union, and the only alternative was to bring the matter before the Council.
The Commissioner said that "it was a gria.t pity that the two societies should come to a dispute. He had always known carpenters to come to a settlement of their disputes very easily. After discussion the Council adjourned in order to allow of a conference between the two groups of workers.
