LABOUR CONFERENCE.
• GENERAL ELECTION PRELIMI- 1 NARIES. i RECONSTRUCTION OP PROGRAMME. J (By Telegraph.--Special to Hebald.) J WELLINGTON, February 18. ' The militant activity of the United Fe- > deration of Labour lias, to a great extent, diverted public attention from the fact that the United Labour Party—a political body supported by Trade Unionists who oppose tire strike as the primary weapon—is still in existence. The local branch of • the latter body bolds a political conference to-morrow, and intends to take part in the municipal election. The national organisation of the party will meet in Wellington at Easter. Meanwhile, the Wellington branch has circularised its members, stating, in regard to its own conference;—“We strongly desire that all the Unions may be in agreement on Ije political situation, os otherwise the Conservatives may return to office for years to come. It is our opinion that the majority of the Union substantially agree with our platform, and want to see Labour in the political field as a Labour party. The business will lie to review the platform of our party, and reconstruct the same on such lines as the Unions desire.’’
