CARNIVAL NOTES,
A very enthusiastic meeting of citizens of Wanganui East was held in the Town Hall last night to further Mrs Fisher s candidature aj4 Queen of the Carnival. Mr Holland, the chairman of the committee, presided, and introduced Mrs Fisher, who, in a very neat little speech, commended herself to the good graces of those present. Excellent arrangements wore made for the election, and, whatever the oilier candidates are doing, it is quite clear that the Wanganui East representative's helpers intend to be at the top when the fateful day arrives'. Tickets for admission are now ready, and books may bo had from Mr C. Qoldsbury, care N.Z. Sports and Pastimes, Ltd. The one who buys the lucky ticket will receive a nugget of gold worth ,£35. Three prizes are offered to those who sell mest tickets',—£3 for first, £2 for second, and £1 for third. The demand for books of voting tickets s ill keeps up. One hundred and fifty thousand tickets have now been distributed to the various candidates’ committees. Time first count will take place next Friday, when the positions of the , four leading candidates will be announced. The lead given by the Eastown Workshops , last Saturday night in marching through I the town, headed by a “Darktown” band, ' is to be taken up by several other commit tecs.
Ballot-boxes are placed at Foster’s Hotel, Gibsons and Paterson's, Rutland Hotel, H. I. Jones and Son’s, Friendly Societies’ Pharmacy, N.Z. Sports and Pavs times, Ltd., Dustin's, Ltd.. Roberts' (tobacconist), Purser’s, Railway Workshops, Bridges’, (Eastown), Cosmopolitan Club, Gonvillc Town Board's office, Gonvillc Bowling Club, Chutlceliff kiosk, Cathero's (Tavlorville), Kosey Tea Rooms (Aramoho). and Paul and Co.’s.
Each candidate polling over 1000 votes by Friday will receive a bonus of £l. Mr CarrelU a new arrival in Wanganui, has offered to manage a “Splash" sideshow.
The side-shows at the Carnival this year promise lo be exceptionally good, several new K'hemes being introduced. Mr McCullagh, of Grocers’ Picnic fame, will conduct a “Hidden Treasure” competition. This is sure to be a moneymaker.
