The attendance was not so largo as usual, and several apologies for absence were sent. Mr Hunter’s Gaming Bill came in for a good deal of discussion, and though apparently the council's protest has not been taken notice of, there was an evident determination to continue opposition to the Bill. It was stated that in the minds’ of ministers and many business men there is a strong feeling that the churches should take united action to put down such forms of gambling as bogus art unions, to chock the spirit of covetousness in young people, and to insist that the law in regard to bookmakers and. the totalisator should be carried out. It was resolved unanimously to apply for the use of the Council Chambers for a midday meeting on March 20, the Rev. W. B. Sco t to bo the speaker. The secretary, Mr H. G('instead, announced that it was with regret that lie must ask to bo relieved of his duties, but as his evangelistic work would take him away from home a good deal during the year ho could take no other course. Words of appreciation of Mr Grinstead’s services having been spoken to by the Revs. .1. D. Mackenzie and F. H. Radford, the resignation was accepted. 'The meeting closed with the Benediction.
