MR. LANG, SPEAKER.
THE WELLINGTON VIEW. (By Telegraph.—Special' to Hbeald.) WELLINGTON, June 24. A good many' legislators arc early arrivals for. the session's opening this year. Possibly, the unexpected vacancy for the Speakership has, heightened their interest in preliminaries usually quite formal and merely spectacular, for this time the Government has .to settle the Speakership straight away. Opinion is hardening in favour of Mr Lang’s chances. The member for Mauakau is not to be drawn into expressing his views on so delicate a matter, but it is quite clear now that his friends realise that he will take the position if opportunity offers, and that he can creditably fill it. This decision really settles the matter, for the Government has made up its mind to give Mr Lang, first refusal. There will' be no refusal.
