SPEECH BY AIR E-SCOTT. M.P. (Per United Press Association.) PAHIATUA, June 21. Mr Eacott, 11.P., delivered a pro-ses-sional address last night. Reviewing the legislation of last session, he pointed out tbnt the Government had (ulblled its promises regarding the freehold, petitions lor widows and vctciaos. the distribution of political patronage, and reform or the LegMlative Council, though a Bill for the latter bad been rejected in the Upper llowe. Replying to Opposition criticism, be.pointed out toat more money had been •peat on public works by the Government than bad been authorised. That amount bad only been exceeded three times during the past fitteen years. Regarding Customs, Mr E-rott said that the previous Government bad always been taking credit for the large sums that had lieen remitted, yet the Opiio.ition critics were now asking for a free breakfast table. Be condemned short-date loans as lieiug suicidal to the country. He urged reforms in the education system, and advocated motor services for tbe hackblock districts, and cheap money for the settlers. A vote of thunks was passed.
