WANGANUI SHEEP DOG TRIALS
FIRST ANNUAL TRIALS. Lovely weather favoured the Wanganui Sheep Dog Trial Chib for the first annual trials, which commenced to-day on Mr ,1. O’Leary’s property at Wanganui East. The trials have been looked forward to with great interest, and hence it was not surprising to find a big gathering of farmers, drovers, and others interested in dogs on the ground this morning. The club had made excellent arrangements, and the officials are deserving of great credit for tho manner in which they carried out their duties. Particular mention must be made of the good work done hy the hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr C. 0. Webster, to whose efforts much pf tho success achieved is to bo credited. The club is to be congratulated oii having secured such a fine bit of country for the .trials, as a better ground could not have been wished for. Tho exceptionally large entry received was very gratifying to all concerned, apd mav be taken as an indication that 'the club will have a prosperous career. In this connection the opinion was. expressed to-day by mahv that the Wanganui Club’s trials will rank as the best of tho season so far as the North Island is concerned. The great number of dogs competing in the opening event prevents ns from giving the result in this issue, as several: dogs have ‘ till to work at the time wo wont tor press. The trials were watched with keen interest bv the largo number present, and it is safe to say that another big..attendance will he recorded to-morrow, when the meeting will bo concluded. ■
