ANGLICAN GENERAL SYNOD.
V (Per United Press Association.)- . NELSON, January 22. At the Anglican General Synod the Bishop of Auckland reported that the Bench of Bishops arrived at the decision re the Mafsden Mcnporial Centontary, and proposed to establish a fund of J2O,(JUO to foster religious education in the province. The objects include (1) contributions of <£soo per year if necessary for three years for the Bible in Schools movement; (2) for the training and payment of Guild of Church teachers for religion in schools; (3) for helping to found Church secondary hoarding schools- for Maoris and Pakchas.' (4) such other purposes as the commission docip to be connected with religion and education. The above suggestions were adopted. A motion of thanks was accorded to ; Miss Kobe S. ’Selwyn for her gift to, the province of the valuable hostoric do- • cuments, and it was decided to place them in the Cathedral library at St. John’s College, Auckland. It was decided to hold the next general synod in Christchurch, commencing om Wednesday, May? 3rd, 1910. An amerdmont to hold the synod at Norfolk Island^,was withdrawn. At tnc general Synod of the Anglican Church to-dayj the committee set-up-to consider a petition from Annul llaumcr parishes for inclusion in thp Christchurch diocese reported that It had no recommendation to make. The iloinc hid Foreign Missionary Committee reported urging all members ot the Church to continue the support of the Melanesian and Maori mission, to extend the knowledge of the Churches' missionary work throughout the world and expressing appreciation of Bishop Wilson’s devoted labour in Melanesia and sympathy with him in his illness. Bishop Crossley said a guarantee fund had.been established in connection with the Marsdeu centenary celebrations, following amounts having been guaranteed —clergy .£lß+, laity ,£136. Motions of condolence and appreciation were adopted in connection with the death of .Messrs W r . 11. Quick (Wellington), J. M. Bitchie, and Dr. Hoekcn (Dunedin). Some discussion ensued on a motion by Archdeacon Harper’Tegarding the supply of census information, out no decision was reached. It was decided to ask the Ecv. A. 11. Purchase, of Christchurch, to write his story of the Church in New Zealand.. The Synod wcfll into committee to consider amendments and proposals by the special committee on (he Church of England Trust Bill to borne before Parliament. The amendments- were all agreed to and a commission set " tip consisting of the Bishop of Wellington, Canon MaeMnrrny, 11. D. Andrews, and T. J. Martin to consider the amendments in the Bill during consideration by Parliament. On the motion of the Bishop of Melanesia, the Bill passed the second reading providing that members of the mission in parish orders should elect the Bishop of the missionary diocese.
