OCEAN MOTOR SHIP.
A SUCCESSFUL FIRST VOYAGE. Spick and span above and below, the Selandia motored her way up the Thames to the West India Docks with the same case and celerity which she had shown upon her departure from London to Bangkok on March 2. During the round voyage to Bangkok and bade the vessel has travelled a total of 21,061 miles, and has visited quite a number of ports. Much bad weather was experienced on the outward trip in the Bay of Biscay and elsewhere. The speed during the greater part of the run was maintained at from ten to eleven knots per hour, and the indicated horse-power was about ,2750. The average daily consumption of fuel for the round voyage was about tons, as against 40-45 tons of coal which would be required for a stearashpi of similar power. The Selandia has fulfilled all that was expected of her by hexbuilders and also by her owners, and her success has completely upset the anticipations of a large number of people as to her reliability and efficiency in the varying conditions of weather which she had to encounter throxighout the whole of the round voyage. ’ , The vessel has just come off one long voyage, and with practically no repairs, and but little overhaul, has been turned round for her second journey to Bangkok. It was officially stated that tliero have been no troubles at all to report.
