An Auckland writer says that a number of Auckland sportsmen intend to visit Wanganui for the winter meeting, to be held on Thursday and Friday next. Several Auckland horses will be competing at llie fixture.

Waiputero, who figures in the Great Northern Hurdles with 10.12, is being whispered about as the likely winner of the big 2J milts event. This mare has proved herself to be u smart performer over fences, and her recent win at Haw ke s Hay was accomplished in fine stylo. On tlie strength of a report from tho South, the Hon. J. D. Ormond's Napper is now a popular selection for the Great Northern Hurdles, and in certain quarters he is credited with having a chance in the big steeplechase as well. Paritulu (V. Coleman) and Bonny (IE Percival) were associated in a spin over the hurdles at Kllerslie on Thursday. Beth horses jumped well, but Paritutu easily held the St. Peter gelding. A most interesting schooling gallop was witnessed at Kllerslie on Thursday, when the Groat Northern Steeplechase candidates Loch Kyne (V. Coleman) and Tui Cakobau (A. Kae) went twice round the steeplechase course, Mr Under being present to see the latter perform, Tui Cakobau quickly set out to force tho pace, and showed the way over the lull a little in advance of Loch Lyne. linei: to the stand double a hunter joined in. and the trio kept well together over the second roun, finishing up over the stand double and the stone wall.
