TALLY CLERKS CEASE WO7.K. (Per United Press Association.) WAIHI, May 2m In regard to the tally clerks ceasing patrol duty, it appears now that no demand by the strike committee officially was made, but individual strikers threatened certain clerks, styling them ".scabs,'' and in conference with the mine superintendent then,, clerks asktd the company's protection, but the latter could nut mc their way to comply with tins.
WHY THE ENGINE DRIVERS SECEDED. Criticism of Miners' Union. A Scathing Indictment. WAIHI. May 27. The new Union (engine-drivers and winder*) issued this morning a statement fixing the reasons why they formed the ’nion. They state that they can no longer tolerate a branch of a Union whose officials embrace every eppor; unity of insulting the Empire and its nd<r-. ridiculing traditional beLeis, si-ofling at all religions, and bleating f- r*u anti-miii-tarism, atheism, and icvolir, unary .Socialism in aeason and <nt of i-.-r.son.
