SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT THE BLUFF (Per United Press Association. J INVERCARGILL, May 12. A railway accident of a rather serious nature occurred at the Hlnli last evening, when a passenger train from Invercargill c illidcd witli a goods train waiting at a aiding about 41M yards from the Hlnli i ail way stuiion. The accident occurred 1 .irough some person as yet undiscovered placing a stone in the joints. The pas- -. ager tram, which left town at, 5 p.m., I ' as a fully laden one, and had it not been ! for the automatic application of the Westinglioiise brake a serious disaster might have occurred. As it was the tram ran on to the siding and collided violently with a shunting engine which was standing on the rails connected with a long line of trucks. The second to last passenger ear, however. jumped the points, severing the airbrake connection, and this automatically slopped the train. The impact was sutlieieut to throw the fireman, Harry Baxter, violently from the cab of the passenger train engine on to the tender, and he received several nasty injuries, including a broken nose and severely cut head. Hie mdition to-night was, however, reported rot very serious. There will be an ex baustive enquiry into Die circumstances of tic accident.
