ALL HOPE ABANDONED
THE DREDGE MANCHESTER. Prosa Association.-Telegraph.—Convright. SYDNEY, May 7, The Moeraki, which arrived to-day, sawno sign of the dredge Manchester. All hope has now- been abandoned.
Tho dredge Manchester was recently purchased by the Sydney Harbour Trust, and left Lvttelton on tho 4tli inst. She railed at Wellington, and sailed from that port on the 6th iust,, so is now 32 days out. Tlio Manchester was a hopper dredge of 833 tons, twin screw, and was sold to the Sydney Harbour Trust recently by the Lyttelton Harbour Board. A representative of the Trust supervised the fitting out of the vessel before her departure, and J. Siddall, the chief engineer of the vessel, is a member of the Sydney Trust staff. Manv of the officers and crewbelonged to Christchurch and Lyttelton. Mr J. Downio, the master, was in the shore employ of the Union Co. at Lyttelton. The chief mate was Mr L, Schultz, who was lately on the small packet steamer John. Other members of the staff and crew were:—Second mate, A. Baxter; second engineer, A. J. Ayers; third engineer, J. W. Crombio; A.B.’a. T. Dallv, H. Rodgers, G. Aasson. P, Prophet, 0. Augustin, S, W. Christie: ordinary seamen S. J. Gilrav, S Anderson; greasers, .1. White, *\. Blundell, R. W. Aldridge; firemen. H. O’Neill, J. Galbraith, E. Pitts. C. McDermott: G. Lambert: steward. ,T. McQueen ; cook, E. Wallace. Mrs Siddall, wife of the chief engineer, accompanied her husband. She signed on as stewardess.
