Some of these were due to the hialtipiieation , I small schools, which increased to all the cost of education while .ensuring only smell salaries, inefficient teaching, and r.nat tractive conditions, for both teachers a.nd pupils. The remedy for Hi is'cause of evil wa.s centralisation of conveyance, which it was stated has proved a slimss in Canada and Vieloria. Three hundred small schools were stated to have been closed in the latter State, and the result should bp a I'educinm in the annual cost, with holier salaries, a, more attractive profes-ion, and a better ,return for the money expended.
