Recently the Postal Department notified the abolition of the 1J per cent, pounda'ge allowed to merchants on automatic franking machines. Mr Vigor Brown, M.P., at the request of a denutation, made representations to the Post-master-General on the subject, but the Hon. H. G. Ell has replied regretting that he cannot see his way to reinstate poundage, as tho expenses of making collection ad allowing credit to holders would *io so heavy as tq materially reduce the amount collected for postage.
