WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council was held this morning, there being present;—Crs. Poison (chairman), Allen, E. E. Fletcher, Whiteman, Higgle, and Collier. UROKONGARO FERRY.-Tho committee appointed to fix a scale of charges for the Upokongaro Ferry reported that they had adopted the following scale:—Foot passengers, between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. 2d at other times 4d ; Vehicles; Two wheels and one horse, Is; four wheels and one horse. Is 6d ; each additional horse, fid; every passenger over two, 2d; horses, per head, including rider, fid; cattle, per head, 3d; sheep, per head, 4d: motor cars, 2s fid; motor cycles, fid ; ordinary bicycles, 3d ; engine or machine other than motor car or motor cycle, ss. The committee also recommended that the clerk be instructed to procure tickets, notice boards, a cash book, and supply lights, and also that tho ferryman be paid £2 10s per week of seven days as soon as the new scale comes into force.—lt was decided to give the scale a trial for six months, and if at the end of that time tho ferry war, not paying, tho Waitotara County Council be invited to share the profit or loss' from the Ferry. WANGAEHU BRIDGE CONTRACT, —The engineer reported that Mr Christie had satisfactorily completed his contraet at the Wangaehu Bridge, and recommended that the money bo paid to him for the work.-—Recommendation given effect to. CLAIM FOR DAMAGES.—Mr C. E. Mackay, on behalf of Mr Ross, the owner of the launch Benares, wrote claiming £lO for damages to the launch through coming into contact with the Upokongaro Ferrv rope at night, there being no light on the punt.—Cr Allen reported that he Had seen the Benares, and he estimated that the damage was not more than £l. —The Chairman reported that the ferryman had hern instructed to have a light placed on the ferry boat.—The matter was ultimately left to Cr Allen to report on. CONTROL OF AMBULANCE VAN.— In reply to a letter from the Wanganui Borough in reference to handing over tho control of the ambulance van to the Hospital Board, it was decided to leave the matter to Cr Fletcher, the County’s representative on the Hosnital Board. SLAUGHTERHOUSE LICENSE.—A slaughterhous license was granted to Mr J. Rountree, of Fordell.
