The following toasts were honoured: “The King,” proposed by the chairman. “Government Departments,” proposed by Mr Tronsou, who in a neat speech, re-, f-arred to the courtesy and civility the public received from the various Government officers in Wanganui. Mr T. tv. Saywcll, in reply, referred to the efficiency of the Government Department in New Zealand in comparison witli other countries. He contended that the Civil Service of New Zealand stood second to none in the British Dominion. Mr Keogh (railways) said the railways of New Zealand were now paying well and the rapid increase of revenue should prove not only 1 enehcial to the mihlic, hut also to the employees, 'the good Reeling that existed between the various Government Departments in New Zealand was very marked, (V.l,ecmlly so m Wanganui Civil Service Clubs,
