NEW ZEALAND-AUSTRALIAN RECIPROCITY

WHAT AUSTRALIA WANTS.

The First Steps.

Press Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright.

Deceived October 7, 9,45 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 7.

Mr Tudor, Minister of Customs, has initiated negotiations with New Zealand regarding reciprocity, by despatching a request for information. He intends shortly to communicate with Camtda.

Sir Joseph Ward's announcement that he would be glad to enter into an agreement similar to the one with South Afrt.-a is regarded as touching merely the fringe of the subject. The Commonwealth is more likely to want an agreement similar to that between New Zealand and Canada, Premier Fisher, who is an ardent advocate of reciprocity, declaring that we must draw the two countries nearer together.

DECLARATION BY MR. FISHER.

MELBOURNE, October 7.

Premier Fisher, speaking at the Scotch College, declared that he hoped in a few years New Zealand would bo linked 'with Australia, and associated not only in defence, but in commercial progress.
