THE COMING ELECTIONS.
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 6. Mr E. G. B. Moss, Opposition candidate for Parnell, opened his campaign to-night. Referring to the retirement of Mr La wry, ho said that if anyone deserved a call to the Upper House, Mr Lawry did. Ho taxed Sir John Findlay with insincerity in declaring, when he came to Auckland, that he was not aware that Mr Lawry was going to retire. Sir John, he said, was well known in the south as the author of a book on “Humbugs,” and be quoted the following passages:—Pago 5: “Spoulcr— The politician who fools the crowd with glorious and gigantic lies.” Page 39: “How luck will make a millionaire and silence a sage; but he who aspires to be a loader of men must perforce bo a humbug.” (Laughter.) He (Mr Moss) was an Oppositionist because ho did not believe in the Government, and Mr Massey was an honest man. The candidate received an excellent hearing, and was accorded a vote of thanks and 'confidence. • Mr Moss, in reply, promised to “shake things up.”
