PERSONAL.

Among the arrivals on town on Friday was Mr G. A. Ilawson, son of the late Mr T. H. Hawson, M.lnst.C.E., of Dunedin, whom many old residents will remember as a prominent citizen of Wanganui in the eighties, when.lie held an important position in the Public Works Office. It is 23 years since Mr G. Ilawson resided in Wanganui, and after re-visiting his birthplace after such a lapse of time he hardly recognises it, so great has been its expansion. Mr Ilawson, who has spent several years in studying biological science, is at present engaged in a scientific lecturing tour of the various secondary and primary schools of the Dominion. In this connection he has received many very excellent recommendations from eminent educational authorities, and comes to Wanganui with very high credentials as a scientific lecturer.
