WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Wanganui County Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday. Present: Crs. J. Higgle, \V. Wilson, 11. M. Speed. J AlcGrcgor, Henry Collier, and C. Burnell.—The chairman (Cr. Mason) being unavoidably absent, Cr. iliggie was voted to the chair. UPOKONGARO FERRY.—The clerk reported that the old ferry punt had been sold for ,£2 10s.—The Waitotara County Council wrote (suggesting that its At 10 grant bo expended in maintaining the boat service till tiro new punt was built, and ako notified that it would contribute 10s per week till the new puiit was finished.—lt was resolved to forward a Jotter of thanks to the Waitotara Council. ACCOUNTS.—Accounts amounting to •£166 19s lid were passed for payment. BANK BOOK.—-The bank book showed a debit balance of .£75 IGs. POISONED WHEAT—It was resolved to procure three sacks of poisoned wheat fo" distribution. EASTERN LINE.—It was resolved to execute the plan forwarded by Messrs Burnett and Mcßcth of the closed Eastern Line, and land in the estate of the late ■A. Jliggie, which was proposed to be brought under the Land Transfer Act. CONFERENCE.—The Chairman was appointed to represent the Council at file Counties Conference. NEW ROAD.—It was resolved to grant the Rangitikci County Council’s request to give a small piece ’of land for a road to give access to scctou 4a. 3c., No. 5, Awarua. KAKATAHI.—The Postal Department forwarded balance-sheet of Kakatahi telephone, and notified certain reductions in charges. LOAN BALANCE.—The matter of placing portion of the Barton-Field’s Road loan on fixed deposit, was left to the chairman. HARBOUR LOAN. —On the motion of Crs Fletcher ami McGregor it was resolved, Cr. Burnell dissenting, to promote among ratepayers a petition that no portion ot the Wanganui County be included ,m (he proposed harbour rating area. The chairman, Crs. Fiddler and Higgle, and the clerk were appointed a committee to diafl. the petition and secure signatures.
