CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 7. A shocking case of cruelty to anima's was disclosed at the Police Court to-dv.y, when a hawker named Harry Compton hj id to answer a charge of having worked his horse while it was suffering from a sore hack. Inspector Alder, of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, saw Compton with his horse and cart at, the City Market, (his morning, ami, noticing blood oozing out from under the saddle of the horse, impeded it. Just under the saddle was a bole of festering flesh, large enough for a man's closed hand to lie
Alter viewing the animal, Air Ciitlcn, S.M., said that lor such an inhuman offence the defendant would have to suffer, lie would be scut to prison for 30 days.
