Mr J. E. Palmer has been appointed as clerk to the Wavcrley Town lloard, vice Mr T. E. Wilson, resigned. The Rev. William Powell missionary to lepers for over 20 yea is in Southern India spent last night in Wanganui as the guest of the Rev. A. S. Wilson. Mr Powell left this morning for Now Plymouth and returns to Wanganui next creek in order to preach in some of the churches on the following Sunday. A pleasant ceremony took place at the Eastowu Workshops at uoou yesterday, when the employees assembled for the purpose of presenting Mr K. G. Hastedt. who has been transferred to Napier with a handsome dressing cm? and travelling bag. The presentation was made by Mr Kydd, workshops manager, who, in "a felicitous speech, referred to the many good qualities which bad made the recipient, such a prime favourite with all at the shops, and wished him every future sneemss. Mr Hastedt suitably replied.
