FAREWELL SOCIAL.
TO MR. AND MRS. ROBERT LAIRD
A most enjoyable function eventuated in the AVcstmere Hall on Monday, when the residents tendered a farewell social and dance to Mr and Mrs Robert Laird, who arc leaving the district. The guests of the evening have always been most popular, and it was not surprising that friends from far and near should gather to add their good wishes. Dancing was indulged in until, a late—or, rather, early—hour, over seventy couples being present. During the evening Mr Hogan, M.P on behalf of the settlers, presented Mrs Laird with a handsome silver tea service and Mr Laird with an English hunting lover watch. In the course of his remarks. Mr Hogan said that Mr Laird had resided in the West mere district for tho pa.it H years, and during Unit time he and Airs Laird had proved indefatigable in forwarding the social and material welfare of tho district. Their loss would Ir keenly felt. The crowded hall bore oi<quont testimony to the popularity of the. recipients, and on'behalf of ihose prftein he wished Air and Airs Laird every prosperity and happiness ni their new sphere. A most enjoyable evening, interspersed with recitations and musical items, was brought to a conclusion by three hearty cheers for Airs and Mr Laird.
