Wnat with butler at Is lid per lb, and likely to rise to ]s 9d, as a well-known provider informed ns to-day, and meat on a rising market, and with vegetables scarcer and higher in price than they have been for some time, the overage housewife lias to be more than careful to make ends meet. Something ought to lie done to combat against these high prices ruling, and it appears (hat a big move has been made in an indirect way .against the trouble, one at least careful housewife has solved the mystery of meeting the demands made on her living allowance. Regarding the Wanganui Borough Council's application to the Harbour Board for (lie grant of a piece of land on the Wanganui Hast side of the river, to form an approach for the now traffic bridge, the Mayor stated at last night’s meeting of the Council that he had discussed the matter with the members of the Board, Subjict to confirmation by the Board they were agreeable to t he dedicat ion of a stripof land two chains wide for (he purposes of the approach, and would also give the use of the necessary ground for the contractor to store his material during building operations. The land is at present leased, but there is a clause in tho lease giving the Board power to resume any of it that may lie required for public purpose*
