AN OLD MAN KILLED. (Per United Press Association.) Alt' KI.AXI), July A. A workman named William Jones was engaged in dismantling an old boardinghouse in the city this afternoon, when a heavy case fell on him and killed him instantly. Deceased was about 55.
FOUND DROWNED. / NELSON, July 4. The body of Mrs .Ann Borrowman, aged 62, a resident of Cape Foulwind, was found .floating -in the harbour this afternoon. She had been ..staying in NoDca and was missed about 2,50, having failed to pay an expected visit to a relative. She leaves a grown-up family.
AN OCTOCENARIAJPS SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, July 4. The police .have received - advice that a man named Richard-Terry, aged 86 years, residing ..at Kakapnaka, near Balchitaa. committed suicide to-day bv shooting hnasalf. ■ ‘ Further particulars regarding the death of Richard Terry, show that on Friday ho broke his leg through slipping on fr< «ty ground. Ho had been living alone, Imt. since the accident a Miss Cross had staved with him. Yesterday morning she went for the mail, and on returning found him dead. Indications pointed io the man having struggled to another room by means of a crutch, and having shot himself with a gun, discharging it with the aid of the crutch.
KILLED BY A TRAM-CAR. WELLINGTON, July 4. Mr Duncan McMnrrach, Marine Superintendent iu Wellington for the Union Steamship Company, was killed by a tramear to-night. He and liis wife were e,ro.,sing the street near the corner of Jervois tjuay and Balhuice Street, not noticing that a ear was coming near th-'in. The molonnan, seeing them, rang Die alarm bell. Mr MeMnrricri and liis wife hesitated, then he went forward and attemplod to pull his wife with him, apparently thinking there was time to cross be;' :-' the car reached Die spot. Air McMnvrich, however, was knocked devil, and, v.-’k-s taken off the life-guard, it. was found f-a', liis (skull was fractured de.ath having hers practically instantaneous. Deceased, who was 57 years of age. had been for many years in toe service of IA- Union C ■■-.>•- paiiy. He came Tom Scotland in the obi Rotorua, and afienvardrt was employed os a number of the company's steamers, 1 wily as chief engineer of the Mararoa. Some 14 years ago he was made Wellingt--:i Niiperinlcndent. lie leaves a widow a’-d five sons and one daughter.
A FATAL EXPLOSION
WESTPORT. July 4. TipioDiy Shaw, single, about 40 years of age, a partner iu a contract in t he. f-v niatiou of ,Ihe Westuort-Xiiangaliiia railway, was killed to-day through being s!ruck by a shower of stoifcs from a bhffit that luui prematurely taken place mi an adjoining coutiaet. Deceased bad an arm carried away, both legs broken, body and facial injuries, and died about three hours afier Hie accident occurred. Two o< women—Murphy and T. Corbett—were slightly injured.
