THE FOXTON WHARVES. Public Baths. (Per United Press Association) LEVIN, July 4. Endeavours are being made by tho various surrounding counties to obtain a guarantee from the various specified districts towards tho ccat of acquiring tho Foxton wharves from the Government fo* the Foxton Harbour Board. The Levin Barough Council discussed the matter last night on a proposal to guarantee £25 per annum on account of the necessary expenditure of £27,000. but it was resolved to defer voting until further information is available. A public meeting of citizens at Levin last week affirmed the desirableness of erecting public baths at Ixivin at a cost of £SOO, contingent on a £SOO Government subsidy being available. Last night the Borough Council again considered the proposal, and again threw it out by a majority of six to four. An amendment to raise'Levin’s share of the expenditure by public subscription was also rejected by the Council. An independent effort is being made to-day to raise £250 by public subscription. Up to noon £t>o had been subscribed.
