BLAZE AT DUNEDIN. At Biscuit Factory. -■ (Per United Press Association). DUNEDIN, June 30. An extensive factory* owned by R. Hudson and Co., biscuit and confectionery manufacturers, in Castle Street, had a narrow escape from destruction by fire this evenig. The promises are now being installed with a Grinnell sprinkler, but tbc installation was not f(nitc comnleto. Fortunately however, the manufacturing section, which comprises a- large building in the centre of the company’s works, and in which the lire originated, was equipped with the apparatus, and when the outbreak was discovered, through the operation of the sprinkler, the flames had a strong hold. The fire apparently started on the ground floor in or near a lift, and quickly reached the top floor, hut the brigade got it under in good time. The origin is a myslerv. there having been no fire in the vicinity of the supposed starting place. The damage is estimated at from ,£IOOO to ,£I2OO. The section affected was insured for about £6OOO, the main policy being with the Royal Exchange Co.
