A deputation from the Long Acre School Committee waited upon the Board and requested their help in the niattei . erection of a teacher’s residence, hj ! eing pointed out that the resident: Sound it inconvenient to accommodate i he teacher. They did not ask for a la re. residence, but for two rooms, of 10ft by 10ft. A chimney was also bad.K ...‘■<l,-1. 1 ue chairman of the Board pointed oul that the attendance only averaged about lour teen, and it was unreasonable to evpect tiie Government to go to the ox Denso of erecting even a two-roomed house, when the roll number was so small. He could not see that tho deputation had a chance of having thei; request granted. It was finally decided to grant the committee £6 for the erection ol a chimney. The matter ol the residence would have to stand over, pending a report by the inspector. PROPOSED DUKIE HILL SCHOOL. A deputation waited on the Board p linting out that if the Mars Hill School were removed lo Durie Hill, the laud al Mars Hill would revert to the original donor, giul a large number of children would have to travel very long distance; to school. Also, the Durie Hill children would have to travel a considerable dist;nec to the new site at Durie Hill. The .dais Hill school was most satisfactory. The chairman pointed out that the reversion mentioned was not noted on iho title; but the whole question would be considered by the Board before anything definite was done. It was also mentioned that a school on the Putiki side of Durie Hill might he the most suitable solution of the difficiillv. MOSSTOWN SCHOOL. A deputation waited on the Board with nl 1 _estimate that it would cost about I 1.10 to shift the school to the new site. The chairman said this would have to be paid by the committee, and tho Board would do tiie rest, that is. provide the necessary additions on the new site. He advised the committee to make strenuous endeavours to raise the £ 1.10 or part of it. The deputation intimated thot it would do so, and notify the Board later on. GENERAL. Eleven applications tor transfer were referred to the Chief Inspector. It was decided to apply for a 20-schncl at Ngutwera, steps to he taken to establish a cottage rcbool at once. £M was granted for htrincs at Whenuakura. on the report of Mr. O’Dea. Accounts amounting to £3IBB 7s. were passed for payment. A committee was set up to consider whether the schools in Carnarvon and Alakowhai could not be centralised. A committee was appointed to visit Patea, re removal of some of the most objrctiopahl? features at present existing at the school, as it is impossible to re-build it. It was decided to put the compulsory training regulations in force at Wanganui East, a request being forwarded to that effect. The Board decided to apply for subsidy on primary school contributions aa well as tlio.-e of secondary schools. The Board's architect. Mr T. H. Battle, reported on tho Technical College. It was decided to authorise the flooring of the corridor to he done with decolite, and to have the turfing of the slopes attended to. IKe tender of Purser and Son waa accepted for furniture, mats, etc. The sum of £9 4s 6d waa granted to the District High School for glazing. Six chairs were granted to the Foxton school. It was decided that the Rata-iti Commissioner be informed that a school would be erected, provided that a site was found. The matter of furniture for Okoia school was referred to the Chief Inspector. It was decided that the Board had no funds to instal a library at Makotukn. The Raetihi committee is tu be informed that no addition can be made to the capitation grant. Kiwitea was listed for painting, the matter of repairing a window being referred back to the committee. A tank was granted to Watershed committee. £2 was granted for fencing the school site at Main South Road. Hurleyvillc is to be offered £5 for rebuilding a chimney. The unatter of repairing stove pipes, etc., at Queen’s Park school was referred to Mr Spurdle. Auroa was granted £ for £ subsidy up to £lO for draining and stumping school ground. “ Alangawhio is to be granted £4 for fencing. Mi O’Dea was deputed to visit Alton and Hnrleyville. Five new posts were granted to Terrace End. Tirirankawa was granted Ids increased subsidy for metalling.

Bulls was granted a refund of £1 10s on epairs to teacher’s residence. £4 10s was granted to Mount View fov painting and tcncing. Taonui was granted a new range, the natter of fencing being held over. Taikorca is to be informed that the Joard has no funds for fencing. Waiata was granted £3, and it was decided to supply a new tank. A bell is to be supplied to the D.H.S. jut of the grant. A new tank ie to be supplied to Noraianby. It was decided to forward the Chief Inspectors' reports re Cameron’s lane, Umunuri, Rauiimu, to the Department. It was decided to support the Otago toird's proposal* re tuition of pupil teachers by correspondence. It was decided to ask for an estimate for repairs to a fireplace requested for Rongo.ea. It was decided to grant funds for repairag a sheiter-shed floor at Makowliai. A hath is to be supplied at Mokoia. Tiie teacher is to be requested to make certain epairs. The matter of repairs to Hawera school was referred to Mr Dixon. The Board declined to erect residences at Stoney Creek, Valley Road, Carnarvon, md Mere Mere. The Chief Inspector is to be asked to report on affairs at Opaku. The matter oi the lease of the site and residence at Fern Flats was referred to Mr Purnell. Karamea was granted permission to lay 'own a tennis court for public use during the pleasure of the Board. Mr C. S. Potts, of Marton, is to be inarmed that the Board cannot increase the 'rant for conveyance of children. The Board’s carpenter is to attend to repairs at Parewanui. A request from the Superintendent of the Boys’ Home, Eltham, that tho Inspector visit the school waa referred to the Inspector The Ohakea committee wrote that the Rangilikei Dairy Company was erecting a creamery in a position that might be detrimental to the school children’s health. It waa decided to forward a copy of the 'otter to the company. Mr H. O. H. barking's resignation of a Valioiial Scholarship was accepted. The Teirace End Committee is to be informed that the Board endorses their reommemlation re changing the date of the annual meetiug of householders. It was decided to recommend the second Monday in May.
