CLAUDE’S SERVICES TO BE RECOGNISED.
• (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 19. When Claude caught sight of the runaway train it was 100 yards away, and the express IJ miles distant, Roth were travelling down a decline, the-express at 20 miles an hour and'the runaway at ei"ht miles an hour. Claud. - ', jumped on the runaway, applied the Westihghouse brakes, and waved a red light to the express. He informed the two passengers of their danger when the express pulled up within two yards of the runaway. Even if the driver of the express had - seen the danger earlier he could not have, averted the collision. The Hon. James Carroll and Mr Thonu* George, M’.L.C., headed a subscription to a fund to recognise Claude’s service. It is i.ntemjed to recommend the Government to do something substantial in that direction. t
