Ladies and Gentlemen, — We, the undersigned, beg to announce that we are Candidates in the above election, and respectfully submit for your consideration the following as the policy for which we stand: Ist. —To carry out the scheme of works as outlined in the plans and estimate prepared by Mr C. H. Howarth, Resident Engineer, subject, however, to the plans and estimate of cost, also estimates of results, being confirmed by an outside and independent marine engineer, and approved by the Marine Department. or adopting and modification of the said scheme as may be approved of by the above-named authorities. 2nd.—Upon the adoption of a scheme, promote a Bill in Parliament authorising the raising of a loan of <£200,000 to .£250,000, and declaring a rating area on a graduated scale of, say, twothirds for town and on»-third for counties, for the purpose of securing such loan. :ird.—Upon the passing of the said Bill, and obtaining the authority of the electors, to proceed at once to raise the loan. 4th.—Order at the earliest possible date a high-class dredge, capable of dredging a floating basin deep enough for of 30ft draught, and, if necessary, dredging and keeping clear the channel from the ocean to the basin. sth.—Upon the arrival of the dredge proceed with the dredging of dcep-sca channel and lierthage at Castleclilf. 6th.—To carry out the north and south moles to the points shown on said plans, or such other modification as may be adopted. 7th.—Construct the mole shown on plan to protect the berthage from the force and silting effects of floods. Bth.—To construct wharves, stores, and I'uch other shore works as may be necessary for the shipping using that part of the port. 9th.—Subject to the final estimate on the aliove works leaving a sufficient margin out of the loan, continue the training and deepening of the channel up to the town. If returned, it will he our pleasure generally to watch over the best interests of the port and river, and secure for it its rightful place as the open door for our town and important district.—Yours obediently, W.
