Rather an important judgment was , t delivered by Dr. McArthur at Petono to-day on the question whether or not it v was legal for proprietors of tearooms small shops to supply people who find' - themselves avyay from homes on Sundays with afternoon tea and other light ■ refreshment. ‘ 1 The police had prosecuted Sarah Snow for having kept a shop open on Sunday, and-for the purpose alleged. The Magistrate decided that the supply of afternoon tea for consumption on the premises came under the heading of • “necessity.” There had, therefore, been no infringement of the law. The information was dismissed without ; costs.
