A meeeting of the Auckland Shipmasters’ Association endorsed the action of the Merchant Shipping Guild in approaching the Minister ot Marine in the matter oi the reinstatement of Captain Attwood. master of the Elingamite. Captain Attuooa uaa his certificate mis pended in January, 1903. since which linn the sea has not furnished a livelihood foi him and his family. He was severely blamed by a Marine Court of Enquiry for the Elingamite disaster. By the oihcial chart of that time Captain AttwooJ. harassed by thick fog, had reason to believe that he was slowly forging ahead over two miles south of the line of the Three Kings, but the chart had a lamentable e'ror. H.M.S. Cambrian has shown that the dangerous islands actuaHy lie over two miles south of the position allotted to them on the maps.
