ANNUAL MEETING. There- was a large attendance (some 4500) at the Opunake races on Friday. The course was in perfect order. The fields were good, the racing was keen, and the finishes close. About £SOOO passed through the totalisator, a considerable increase on last year. The Hon. Jas. Carroll was an interested spectator. There wore no less than 37 motor-cars, and numerous other vehicles of all descriptions. The meeting was excellently managed by Air G. W. Rogers, secretary, and other officials. Air Alf. Alorso was very successful in his efforts as starter. Results: Handicap Hnrdles.-rMr J. AI. Lament’s Clemency (Pine), 9.8, 1; Zante (Wayne), 9.8, 2; Alississippi (Cochrane), 9.0, 3. Also started: Waitapu 10.10, Silver Cluse 9.0, Silver Slipper 9.0. A fair start; won on the post by a nose, aicor a great struggle up the straight. Time, 2min 15 4-ssec. Flying Handicap.—Mr W. Bradford’s Echuca (C. Bradford), 1; Cliff (R. Coates), 2; Mluoii Berlin (Fairley), 3. The winner trotted well throughout, and won easily by a hundred yards, twenty yards separating second and third. Time, 4min 2sec. Opunake, Racing Club Handicap, of 100 sovs.—Air J. Foreman’s Alallet (Ryan), 9.0, 1; Valentine (Price), 8.7, 2; Darby Paul (Horne), 7.3, 3. Also started: Tam Glen 8.0, Lady Heroine 7.6. A good start. Tam Glen led past the stand and back, where he was joined by Valentine, who took the lead two furlongs from home, and was first into the straight. Here Alallet challenged the leader, and in an oxciting finish won by a head. Time, 2min 13 l-ssec. Electric Stakes.— Mr J. Brown’s Katua (C. Brown), ]; Cornelian (Coleman), 2: Dover Straits (Monk), 3. Also started: Queensland, St. Venton, Watine. Koldrianewa, and Gamecock. Katua went to the front almost immediately, and was never headed, eventually’ running by a length from Cornelian, Dover Straits half a length away third. Time, 51 2-ssec. Handicap ITrot.—Air J. O.
