SCULLING.

THE PARRAMATTA HUNDRED. ARNST RETIRES. ' Press Association. —Telegranh.--Copyri"lit. SYDNEY, March 18. For the Parramatta Hundred the weather was fine, and there was a rising' tide. 'First Heat.—Ripley (83secs.). 1, Theo. Towns (48secs.) 2, Day (18secs.) 3. Ripley was never overhauled, and won a good race by a length. Second Towns (44secs.) 1, W, West (73secs.) 2, McLean (75secs.) 3. Towns gradually forged through and won ty two lengths. A great finish took place between the other placed men, J. Arnst pushing McLean hard for third place. Third Heat.—Hagney (18s«cs.) 1, Simpson (70secs.) 2, Paddon (45secs.) 3. The presence of Arnst and other cracks, including Messenger, gave additional interest. Hagney, with a good start, overhauled the limit man at Tennyson, Lawson (60secs.) lying fourth, Arnst (sell.) with Messenger (32secs.) together well in the rear. At Caharita Arnst retired despite many requests to finish the course. Hagney,'finishing well, won by four lengths, Lawson fourth, and Messenger in the ruck. Fourth Heat.—Fogwell (18secs.) 1, F. Matterson (40secs.) 2, C. Matterson (75 secs.) 3. Fogwell steadily made his way to the front, and took charge at Tennyson, when he jumped away and finished two lengths to the good. Kemp was fourth. Arnst’s defeat li£s robbed' the final next Saturday of a good deal of interest. Received March 20, 10.20 a.m. SYDNEY, March 20. Arnst’s poor showing in the Parranmtta Hundred, is explained hy the fact that he was unwell, and for a week or more prior to the race could hardly sit a'boat. Ho cam© out to start, but lacked dash when going.
