HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary monthly mooting of tho Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs W, Ritchie (chairman), B. P. Lethbridge, E. K. Simpson, G. Spriggens, H. -'V. Fletcher, H. D. Bennett, A. Robinson, and T. 11. Battle. FINANCE.—The hank hook showed a unbalance of J2315 11s 6d. RESIGNATION.—On tnc motion of the Chairman, it was-decided that the resignation of Mr Gilbert Carsdn' be accepted with regret, and that the Board’s appreciation -of Mr Carson’s long and valuable services to the district be placed on* re- : cord.-—After several members had expressed their regret at Mr Carson’s enforced retirement, Mr H. D. Bennett moved, and Mr E. E. Fletcher seconded, “That this ..Board expresses its keen sense of the injustice. done to individuals (,giving valuable .services to public bodiear-and institutions .by the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, and considers that the principle contained in that Act is wrong, and will have the tendency of driving the handling .of public works and funds into the hands of inexperienced men* and that notice of the passage of this resolution he sn-nplied to all other Hospital Boards.”— Carried. ... THANKS.—Mrs -T. R.: .Sommervillc and family wrote thanking the Board for its expression of sympathy in tho death of the. late Lieut.-Col. Sommerville.—-Received. APPLICATION —Miss Rita Carr-Comyns ’wrote asking that her name ue placed on the probationers’ list.—Referred to the Institutions’ Committee. . . APPOINTMENT.—Mr T. H. Battle war. unpointed to the uracancv on the Finance Committee, caused by the resignation of Mr Carson. . . . DEGENERATES.—The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote ro. the conference as to the treatment of degenerates.—Received. TAIHAPE HOSPITAL—Tho South British Insurance Company wrote re the insurance on the Taihapo Hospital buildings. —lt was decided that the architect be instnicted to see that the buildings are kept covered by the contractors until the contract is completed. CONCESSIONS.—-A communication was received from the H.A.0.D., Wanganui, asking that some concessions he made in the feus charged to Hospital patients who are- members of a fund provided by the Lodge.—Referred to the- Finance Committee to report to tho Board at next meeting. It was also decided that the .secretary be ..instructed to write to other hospitals. of the Dominion rc concessions to. Friendly Societies. :. LEAVE.—The medical, superintendent wrote applying for Ids annual leave, and stating that he had arranged with Dr. Hathcrly to act as locum tenons. —The -Chairman reported that, after consultation with other members of the Board, lie had authorised the leave; on the lines indicated. —The Chairman’s, action was .endorsed. . POWER PLANT.—A' committee consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Battle, Bignell, and Robinson, appointed to deal with the ; hospital power plant, reported that the tender of Mr Ni Andrew (-A779) for tho erection of a- suction, gas engine, dynamo, -switchboard, and accumulators complete, with all ! accessories for the Wanganui Hospital, had been accepted. The committee further reported that since, the tender had been accepted, Mr Andrew had made, an offer of an Hearth type-of plant,'instead- of the, ordinary design at an, extra ebst of £23, which offer had : been closed with;—-The committee’s report -was adopted.- A; - ■ • FINANCE . COMMITIEE,—-The Finance Committee's report recommended that;the. Board communicate with discharged patients .whose accounts arc outstanding. That accounts amounting to til 104 12s lid ho-passed for payment.— Adopted. • V MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT.—The Mcdipal Superintendent's report on the .Hospital and' Jubilee Home, giving statistics, for the month of December, of both institutions, : was adopted.
