WANGANUI EMPLOYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. ■A The annual, general meeting of the Wanganui Employers’ .Association was held ’in the Association's rooms, Lennard’s Buildings, last evening. ANNUAL REPORT.—The president’s annual report, which was adopted, was as follows:—One of the principal events of the past year was the New Zealand Industries Show in shop windows. Nearly every e.liop in town rose to the occasion, and made very creditable displays of New Zea-land-made goods in their windows. I think the displays must have done good, and en’igl.tened many people as to what can be made in New Zealand. The annual conference of the Employers’ Federation was held in. Wellington in October last. Mr Caiman and I attended as delegates from this Association. The Parliamentary Committee of the Federation has done very useful work in watching proposed legislation, and was particularly active last .session. Some very oppressive clauses were embodied in the Office and Shops Act, which, however, did not go through. A movement was started with the object of getting WangaT.ui separated from the Wellington. Indusfiial district, but so far nothing has come of it. This w-ould be very desirable as Wanganui is frequently involved in Wellington disputes, although having no interest in them. One of the matters which has received the attention of this Association during the year has been the differential and long-distance railway rates winch operate adversely to our interests, ibis is a large subject, and is now engao--nig the attention of other towns similarly placed, such as Timaru and Oamaru. It is hoped that combined action from all such towns may. lead to redress. ' : BALANCE-SHEET.—The balance-sheet, which .was adopted, disclosed a satisfactory position, the cash’ in hand being i£37 is lOd. It was pointed out that the last ® sll f )sol ' l pLi°ns in arrear amounted to <±-X2 IZS.
