PREPARING FOR WAR.

AMID PROFESSIONS OF PEACE. Speech by Sir Geo. Reid. Pleas Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright. Deceived April 27, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, April 26. Sir George E-rid, speaking at Birmingham upon the manufacture of rifles for Australian cadets and the building of destroyers and Dreadnoughts, said it was proof that, whilst statesmen were busy in the professou of peace, the great nations were practically in a state of war. One danger of the vast armaments was that in a mad moment the whole destinies of the human race might depend upon that odious arbitrament—brute force. Australia was right in making tremendous preparations for a danger that might never come. If once the British Navy was destroyed her enemies would never allow it to be re-built.
