THE INFANT SCHOOL.
.'While it is a pity that a final settlement of tho matter should have been left for so lona, yet the Wangahui householders seem to have acted wisely in passing last ujgat’is resolution regarding the proposed central .infant school. The meeting decided most emphatically against the. pro posal, resolving in favour of infant departments at the existing schools. The lat ter idea is one which must commend itself to everyone, if only for the fact that it will prevent many of tho little ones travelling the long distance which a central school would involve. In going a long distance, too, the little ones W'ould mostly have to travel without protection ,and tho danger from traffic, which is not absent no,w, is bound to increase as years go on. There is ample space at tho existing schools for further accommodation, and this built, every part of tho town will be equally served. d’e hope the matter will be pushed on as speedily as possible, and that the necessary change will bo made without delay, as the present infant school in Guyton Street is nothing but a nursery for microbes and a disgrace to a civilised community.
