THE WARATAH MYSTERY.

STORY OF FLOATING BODIES. An Explanation. (Per’ United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 21. J. Day, formerly second officer of the steamer Tottenham, replying to questions submitted by the Marine Department concerning his story that bodies were seen off East London shortly after the Waratah was reported missing, states that he mentioned the matter to three men in Melbourne when the Tottenham was there; also to his parents on reaching England. The captain and an apprentice were talking about the matter with the ship’s agent in Melbourne.. If other members of the crew did not talk about the matter, it was because orders were given by the captain and officers to say nothing, as it might cause the ship a lot of bother.
