Sailed.—lonic (6.40 a.m.), for London. The pilot received a wire yesterday at 10 o’clock stating that the launch Monarch had arrived at D’Urville Island after a splendid passage. The launch left at 9.30 the night previous, so that a particularly smart trip must have been made. It is the intention of the party to engage in fishing in Nelson waters. The Kiripaka arrived at 10 o’clock this morning with a full load from Patea. She leaves for Wellington to-night. The Kapiti left this morning for Puponga and leaves there for Lyttelton. The Wh{j:arua took the' following cargo from this port: 12355 carcases of lamb 4,539 carcases of sheep, 333 crates of mutton, 231 forequarters beef, 240 hindquarters beef, 300 cases tinned meat 5 crates kidneys, 813 bales of wool. 394 casks tallow, 116 casks pelts, and 27 casks casings. While about to enter Foxton last week with a load of coal from Puponga, the coastal steamer Wairau got aground on the bar. She managed after a couple of davs to cross inwards but on Saturday was stuck in the Mauawatu River. The Wairau it is believed has damaged her rudder, and has also been strained, aa she is leaking. The vessel is to go to Wellington for repairs on the patent ■lip. A combination of neap tides and heavy seas has made the Patea and Foxton bars unworkable during the past few days and has caused considerable inconvenience to shipping. Captain Harvey has transferred the command of the Queen of the South at Foxton, to his mate Captain Brigden. Captain Harvey will take charge of the Himitangi, as Ccptain Manley, of the latter vessel, is to go on holiday leave. Mr. J. Hall, of Foxton, has joined the Queen of the South as mate.
