LYCEUM THEATRE

Another big crowd attended the Lyceum last evening, when the present programo was again submitted. With the assistance ■of tho now dynamo and the recent improvements installed by Messrs. Hayward, tho show is now perfect in ovdry detail and well deserves tne splendid patronage it is accorded. Wo ■understand that the management have made arrangements with the West Proprietary to obtain all tho pictures exhibited ■at tho Wellington and Christchurch Theatres, and this will undoubtedly prove a great attraction. This programme: is decidedly the host wo have had for some time, and will no (Joubt continue- to ’draw crowded housetf-tiirlvt’ up to the end. Tait. But with the hand there " was tins in to each \ioto in each part there, was a value given by the. a 'thing impossible on the organ. The whole blended beautifully, and there was the added delight of subtle little movements beneath. The wave of sound swayed on majestically—ono long unbroken roller, but the lino was not mathematical, as if drawn with a ruler. Everywhere there were' little crests and hollow's—swelling and swaying ■undulations 1 , of. liquid sound! Kinhng has said somewhere that in tho host ./mlled regiments of soldiers there is a ripplo That runs patnrally.along the ranks wfhen thoy are-- executing ,iiidvomonts|t whitens a far hotter sigh than a stiff rigid line; ■and now one can understand' tho discussion born, of expectancy^dr hearing this famous combination it had ,boon whispered that their playing w'itfhid bo mechanical. It is anything- but that in tho.bare sense of the word. Tho cpntrasts obtained by various combinations of instrnmnnts w'as remarkable, arid; a very fine thing was the working iupiwto •fortissimo these passages, Tho piling-of sound as instrument after instrument was added reached a clirriax soprano cornets leaped up an octavo, their soaring passages soemjng ,to vjtsrilminate in a scream of triumph.
