News was received, from Perth at an early hour this morning that the Aberdeen liner Pericles had sank off Flinders Day, Cape Leewin. The crow arc reported to have landed safely in the vicinity of Leewin lighthouse. ,-. The .Pericles was Homeward bound with a full complcnibrit of passengers and a, valuable cargo from’ Brisbane, . Sydney, Hobart, and Melbourne.' p T"

A VALUABLE CARGO

Rceeiv&TlApril* -1,,’ 19.25 a.m. i. SYDNEY, April, 1. . The Pericles’ Brisbane cargo included over 13;000 o&ilcdscs’bl; 'iwaitem' ahi lamb, 1000 quarters of beef, and 16,000 boxes of butter. The Sydney cargo included 5000 bales of wool, 10,800 carcases of mutton and lambs, 15,000 boxes of butter, ,1250 crates df 'rabbits, and 250 tons of wheat. The Hobart cargo included over 35,000 cases of apples and 1119 eases of preserved fruit.' The Melbourne cargo included over 10,000 carcases of mutton, 300 bales of wool, 424 tons of wheat, "and 1050 boxes of butter. Captain Simpson, the commodore of the Aberdeen fleet, is in command. It is a remarkable coincidence that only yesterday the agents of the line were advised that the order bad boon placed for the construction of a sister ship to the Pericles, named Themistpelcs. :

LATER PARTICULARS. 1 Women Behave Splendidly. Passengers and Crew Lose Everything. Received April 1, 9.30 a.m. ■ PERTH, April V The Pericles; was noticed ’'cstorday afternoon six -.miles- south. of Leewin lighthouse flying’signals of distress, licr bows being well■;under, and her stern high but of the water. Boats were leaving loaded with women and. children. The’/steamer gradually drifted closer in, struck a rock, and sank throe miles off Leewin. In the meantime all aboard were safe in the boats. A later report from Karridale states that about 80 of the women and .children passengers arrived, there from Flinders Bay. They arc receiving every attention. Every house at Karridale is full of castaways.

The women behaved splendidly. There was no panic or impediment to the work of rescue. The passengers and crew lost everything hut what they stood in. All are in good health. ■ One boat put off from the wreck ,/ith three oars, no plug, or rudder. She readied the land, being steered, with an oar. No details are yet to hand as to the causei of the disaster.'
